HGTV’s Dan Wellens Wins Silver in Minnesota’s Best Furniture Awards

Dan Wellens, owner of Country Tables & Furniture, has shipped more than 5,500 tables from his Cologne, MN shop.

A unique combination of artisan and highly focused businessman, Wellens added a new accolade recently as he was voted a Silver Award in the 2022 Minnesota’s Best Furniture Store competition held by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Wellens also gained notoriety nationally with regular appearances at HGTV, where he is among the stable of master artisans featured by the cable channel.

With his appearance at the IWF 2022 Influencers Lounge along 15 woodworking pros, Wellens may be familiar to wood industry colleagues.

In addition to his signature dining room tables, often built with live edged slabs and voids filled by colorful acrylic pools, he builds and ships many other types of furniture produced during his long career. “With numbers like that you have to be doing something right, not only with building quality pieces, but also with building a quality company,” says fellow woodworker Ethan Abramson, who interviewed Wellens for his podcast Building a Furniture Brand.

“Wellens is someone that has learned over time how to walk that fine line in furniture making—the line between having a manufacturing company and making pieces as an artistic pursuit,” Abramson says.

In the podcast, Wellens talks about the importance of workshop automation, what the best steps for making a solid business foundation are, and dives into his pricing strategy.
