Ace Hardware Hits 5,000 Locations; 200 More on the Way This Year

The big retailer is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year with an aggressive expansion plan.

With the recent opening of its 100th location in Henderson, NV, Ace is on pace to hit its goal of 200 new stores during calendar 2024. The dealer-owned retail cooperative saw 203 new stores last year and with this year’s openings it hit the 5,000 total-store mark.

“I’m so proud to announce our 100th new store opening of the year in the 100th anniversary of the company,” said Ace Hardware president and CEO John Venhuizen. “This serendipitous symmetry is a beautiful testament to the enduring relevance in our faith that human connection and a servant heart is not the enemy of a successful business, it’s the enabler.”

With locations in more than 60 countries, Ace has opened over 900 new stores over the past five years and reports that it has disbursed $357 million in dividends providing a 35 percent return for Ace shareholders last year. It recognized a new location, Fixit Ace Hardware in Roswell, GA, as its 5,000th store.

Ace Hardware, based in Oak Brook, IL is the largest retailer-owned hardware cooperative in the world, operating a network of distribution centers in the U.S. with distribution capabilities in Ningbo, China and Cuautitlán Izcalli, Mexico.
