Alexander City, AL—WF Cabinetry, a designer and manufacturer of semi-custom kitchen and bath cabinets, earned a spot on the 2021 Inc. 5000, as its business doubled on average over the past three years.
Founded as Wellborn Forest, WF Cabinetry started as a manufacturer of cabinets for government housing, evolving into a leading manufacturer of semi-custom cabinetry, operating from a 200,000-sq.-ft. facility in Alexander City, AL.
It sells to the single-family residential market through a broad network of independent dealers that span the U.S. WF Cabinetry, which offers a wide variety of door styles, colors, and customization options to its customers, saw revenue grow 101 percent from 2017 to 2020, while employment increased 146 percent. Inc. 5000 is a ranking of the fastest-growing private companies in North America reporting average median growth for the three years ending 2020.
In 2018, WF Cabinetry was acquired by HCI Equity Partners, a private equity firm. (HCI also owns Regent Cabinets, a Lakewood, NJ-based manufacturer of KCMA-certified kitchen cabinets for 100+-unit multi-family residential buildings.) Accounting for some of WF Cabinetry’s growth was its 2020 acquisition of 200-employee De Pere Cabinets in De Pere, WI.
“We are thrilled that 25 percent of HCI’s platforms have been recognized by Inc. for achieving these spectacular growth metrics,” says Doug McCormick, managing partner of HCI Equity Partners, and that it demonstrates “the effectiveness and consistency of HCI’s partnership model, deep engagement and proven approach to effectively employing M&A as an attractive growth strategy.”
WF Cabinetry originated in Ashland, AL as Wellborn Cabinet, Inc., and was founded in 1961 by Morgan Wellborn with sons Douglas and Paul. Morgan Wellborn moved the family’s home-building business from Pensacola, FL to Cragford, AL where he and Douglas began making cabinets in a 20×50-ft. building. In 1961 Paul joined the operation and Wellborn Cabinet Company was formed in Ashland. WF Cabinetry began producing framed cabinets in Alexander City after splitting from Wellborn Cabinet, Inc in 1986.
