October is Woodworking Manufacturing Month during which woodworking innovation and enterprise are celebrated.

The second annual event, created by the International Woodworking Fair (IWF) on behalf of IWF’s owners, the Woodworking Machinery Industry Association (WMIA) and Wood Machinery Manufacturers of America (WMMA), is produced and staged under the banner Innovation At Work.

Woodworking Manufacturing Month will celebrate woodworking industry vitality on two parallel tracks: A national awareness and outreach campaign operating in tandem with local grassroots programming initiated by participating manufacturers.

Local efforts will involve businesses across the U.S. in a collective demonstration of woodworking as a source of innovation in production technology and materials development and as a center for applying those advances to the development and production of innovative products used across a host of market segments, including building and construction, industrial infrastructure, consumer goods, and many other markets.

Local participants will benefit from a full turn-key marketing and branding resource toolkit providing ready-to-deploy digital vehicles, program logos, graphics, and other essential material. Equipped with these tools, participating businesses can choose to stage self-directed local events and promotions such as open houses, factory site visits, and product innovation discovery days.

Beyond elevating industry visibility and championing the role of innovation as a growth engine, Woodworking Manufacturing Month aims to position the woodworking industry as a career destination. The industry embraces hundreds of woodworking suppliers, including developers of design systems, manufacturers of equipment and related technology, and suppliers of lumber, panel, hardware, fasteners, coatings, and adhesives.

It also includes thousands of wood products manufacturers who put these elements to use to manufacture cabinetry, furniture, doors, floors, windows, millwork, and industrial wood components like railroad ties, truck beds, and telephone poles. These products supply fundamental industries that form the backbone of the U.S. economy. Formally known by economists as the Secondary Wood Manufacturing Industry, woodworking products support housing, utilities, shipping, recreational boats and vehicles, and business aircraft to name just a few examples.
