Interprint Invests $22 Million in Pittsfield Décor Print Plant

September 28, 2022 | Bill Esler

Pittsfield, MA—Interprint, Inc. will invest $22 million to expand its Pittsfield, MA site and for the purchase of additional printing presses to support its rapidly growing printed décor business

Once complete, the 57,000-sq.-ft. expansion will provide space for additional rotogravure printing machines and storage of goods. Construction will begin in November 2022 and be completed in the summer of 2023, as weather conditions permit. Installation of the printing machines will begin in late 2023. The project is expected to eventually create up to 20 new jobs, increasing the company’s employment to approximately 185.

The investment will expand Interprint’s capacity to produce decorative overlays used in the manufacturing of flooring, furniture, and other consumer products.

“We are thankful for the support of our owners and management group so that we can continue to meet the dramatic rise in popularity of our customers’ products long into the future,” says Co-Managing Director Bill Hines, Jr. Interprint, Inc., is the North American headquarters of the Germany-based Interprint Group that was acquired by the global printing company Toppan Inc. in 2019.

“Creation, and continued support, of family-supporting jobs in Berkshire County has always been a major goal of ours,” Hines says.

Interprint, Inc. installed a press designed to print thermoplastic films in 2020 and is in the middle of a separate $7 million investment to replace its oldest press with one that will print both paper and film products.

In Pittsfield, Interprint currently operates four presses designed to print décor paper for the laminate industry, and a fifth that prints flexible films for the growing luxury vinyl flooring industry. Upon completion of these investments, the company will run 8 printing lines.

Interprint is a worldwide leader in décor design and printing for the decorative laminate, furniture, case goods and flooring industries.
