They always were involved in home design but increasingly interior designers are creating the houses themselves.
For home and commercial builders used to working with traditional architects there’s increasingly another player in the creation of new houses and other commercial structures: the interior designer.
TV host Bobby Berk, an Emmy Award-winning designer well known to Netflix viewers as the host for eight seasons of Queer Eye, is the latest interior designer to get into the home building business. Together with Tri Pointe Homes, he has launched his first collection of model homes in 15 metropolitan areas around the country, including Charlotte, NC, Rancho Mission Viejo, CA and Winchester, CA.
The relationship between Berk and Tri Pointe Homes began in 2015 when they collaborated on the design of The Responsive Home, two concept homes aimed at millennial buyers. Since then, Berk and Tri Pointe Homes have worked on several projects and last May they created Bobby Berk x Tri Pointe Homes.
Interior designers and home builders working together to create and brand new homes has been a trend gaining momentum for the past several years. Names from Joanna Gaines of Magnolia Home to Martha Stewart to Elie Saab have all collaborated with builders developing new homes, giving builders another party in the mix of creatives in the home building process. For some, these are more about trims and finishes than housing shapes and materials but each case seems to be different.
The Berk-Tri Pointe collaboration, which is being marketed under the BB Edit brand, includes fixtures and flooring as well as furniture and home décor. “I believe that your personality should always be at the forefront of the way your home looks and feels,” said Berk. “And if you need help doing that, Tri Pointe Homes has a solution tailored for you!”
“At Tri Pointe Homes, we are proud of the life-changing design options we deliver to customers across all price points and life stages,” said Linda Mamet, chief marketing officer at Tri Pointe. “Collaborations, such as this one with Bobby Berk, give customers innovative and unique options to accomplish this result.”
