Bristol, IN—MJB Wood Group offered a construction update on its half-million-sq.-ft. components facility near Bristol, IN.
Owned by the Coors family of beer brewing fame, the plant will open in the first quarter of 2022, replacing a 228,000-sq.-ft. plant there that MJB says it has outgrown. This will increase MJB’s ability to meet the sourcing needs of customers in the immediate area and throughout the Midwest, especially in the fast-growing RV industry.
Elkhart County is a recreational vehicle hub, manufacturing eight out of 10 of the RVs on the road today, and is home to major wood component suppliers to the sector such as Genesis Products and Patrick Industries. By expanding there, MJB says it will be able to support the growth of the RV industry in the region, while also using the new capacity to scale up for its growing primary end markets of cabinets, furniture, and transportation.
The plant will include a 100,000-sq.ft. fabrication section for producing components. MJB says the additional fabrication space on site will allow it to expand its manufacturing capabilities and offer new products and custom services, such as cut-to-size panel, CNC routing, edge profiling, and edge sealing.
“We also will be ramping up RV slide-out flooring in this new facility,” the company says. “This slide-out flooring will be made from OSB material with coating for weather-resistance and structure, and is among the many new products and services we plan to offer in this new facility.”
MJB also supplies cabinet manufacturers with components solutions that range from plywood/composite panel to highly engineered parts such as cabinet end-panels, cut to size shelving, cabinet doors, drawer parts, and mouldings. MJB Wood Products is among more than 200 cabinet components and door-related suppliers listed at IWF 2022.
In January 2022 the building doors and windows will be installed, and fire protection systems installed, followed by electrical in February, and inspection in March permitting occupancy in April 2022. MJB says it will eventually employ more than 100 people at the Bristol location, and that the additional capacity and manufacturing capabilities will provide its vendors and customers with the same quality they expect from MJB, now with greater efficiency and value-adding options.
MJB Wood Group revenue has grown more than 18 percent year-over-year in the region for the past five years. It originally announced plans to build the new wood component plant in March 2021.
