News Release
Leesburg, VA – The Composite Panel Association is seeking companies interested in participating on the stakeholder consensus voting body for revisions in ANSI standards for Particleboard (above) and for MDF.
CPA is the accredited standards developer for ANSI A208.1 Particleboard and ANSI A208.2 Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) for Interior Applications. These standards were last approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in 2016 and must be revised or reaffirmed on a five-year cycle, or more frequently, if appropriate.
On March 8, 2021, CPA filed an ANSI Project Initiation Notification System form announcing, through the accrediting body’s Standards Action publication, the intention to sponsor a revision of these standards and to seek interested stakeholders to participate in the process. ANSI’s procedures for developing consensus standards require a balanced group of producers, users and general interest organizations to participate in the process.
The current ANSI A208.2-2016 Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) for Interior Applications sets forth requirements and test methods for dimensional tolerances, physical and mechanical properties and formaldehyde emissions for medium density fiberboard (MDF). ANSI A208.1 sets forth requirements and test methods for dimensional tolerances, physical and mechanical properties and formaldehyde emissions for particleboard. Methods of identifying products conforming to the two standards are specified.
Companies interested in participating on the stakeholder consensus voting body should contact CPA by April 16. E-mail Gary Heroux for more information.
