C.R. Onsrud , the family-owned machinery manufacturing company, broke ground last month for a new building that will bring its Troutman, NC campus up to 225,000 square feet.
In breaking ground on March 1 for a new 67,000 building that will house production of larger machinery as well as additional office space, C.R. Onsrud said when completed it will have 225,000 square feet of manufacturing and headquarters space at its Troutman, NC campus.
Tim Onsrud, CEO, said the new facility would be a win-win for both the company and the local area. “We feel very fortunate to be in a position of growth and opportunity investing in the future of manufacturing, and the positive impact this has on the people in our local community. And I think our customers will be pleased because now we’ll have the space to make more machines — especially the large ones — and ship them out faster.”
This new construction is part of a multi-phase expansion project that includes a 9,900-square-foot expansion of the existing machine shop along with the purchase of new equipment to increase production capacity. The expansion is currently in its final stages with the new equipment being installed. The company said this project represents a $17 million reinvestment into the business and will add another 50 to 100 positions when it is completed in the second quarter of next year.
C.R. Onsrud currently employs about 200 people, from welders, machinists, painters and product assemblers to engineers, sales and administrative staff. Since opening this facility in 1976, the company has specialized in CNC machining centers and Inverted Routers® along with providing a full line of tooling and accessories for CNC machinery. The Onsrud family has been in the machining business for over a century.
