In this episode, host Ethan Abramson sits down with Nick Sawyer, owner of Portland, OR-based Sawyer Design.
Not all those who wander are lost. This could easily sum up the beginning of Sawyer’s working life. He had the drive, he just didn’t know what that drive was pushing him towards.
Sawyer had been waiting tables at a high-end steak house, making a good living but with too much open time. His wife suggested a hobby, and he chose woodworking—which soon became a passion, and a business.
With the help of a mentor, a new city, good experiences as well as hard ones, and a new found community of online furniture makers—Sawyer found a place where his passion and his skills could come together into a profession that he loved.
Follow along as we talk about what your pieces are worth, how to sell a story, the importance of community, and much more. In this video, Sawyer shows how to build strong curved joints for a gaming desk.
You can meet Ethan Abramson and some of the woodworkers featured in his podcast at the IWF Woodworking Influencers Lounge (Booth A10620) sponsored by Shaper Tools, and located adjacent to the IWF Network News (Booth A10618).
