Winchester, VA—American Woodmark launched a new kitchen cabinet color this fall—painted sage—along with a new Shaker door style.
The full overlay detailed shaker door has a flat center panel, with the option of a slab or five-piece drawer front. The introduction of green paint comes on the heels of a recent color addition of painted navy. Both are offered in response to recent customer preferences for bolder, on-trend cabinets.
“We have seen a significant increase of cabinets being purchased that have a pop of color and our navy paint performed exceptionally well,” says Teresa May, chief marketing officer at American Woodmark. “Sage is designed as a complementary color to a variety of already available paints and stains for customers who prefer a multi-tone look.”
Green is having its moment in design planning for 2022, seen as an organic and life-affirming hue for a nation emerging from COVID19 constraints. Variants of the shade earned “Color of the Year” designations by PPG and Sherwin-Williams. For Sherwin-Williams, Evergreen Fog SW 9130 a “green-meets-gray, with just a bit of blue” earned color of the year. “It’s a simple but sophisticated wash of beautiful, organic color for spaces that crave a subtle yet stunning statement shade,” says Sherwin-Williams, and Denver, CO design firm Kindred Interiors quickly adopted it to an interior project. Sherwin-Williams will be at IWF 2022 with its range of paints, finishes, and color and formula management technology.
PPG also chose green as its color for 2022, with the brash Guacamole for its consumer Glidden brands aimed at do-it-yourselfers. A more restrained green for the professional A&D side of PPG’s Industrial Coatings business, a grey-green Olive Sprig (PPG1125-4) was named 2022 Color of the Year. PPG Industrial Coatings is already booked for IWF 2022, August 23-26 in Atlanta.
American Woodmark (NASDAQ: AMWD) is the third-largest U.S. kitchen cabinet manufacturer after FBHS’s MasterBrand Cabinets and Cabinetworks (the merged Masco and ACPI-Armstrong Cabinets). It recorded net sales of $442.6 million during its most recent quarter, up 13.5 percent. Net income fell dramatically, from $16.1 million a year ago, to $3 million, “due to the rapidly evolving inflationary pressures outpacing our pricing actions taken across all our channels.”
