Archdale, NC—Häfele broke ground on a massive expansion of its Archdale, NC warehouse on April 4. Completion of the $13 million investment in facility upgrades and expansion is expected to be completed in the fall.
The additional 94,200 sq. ft. of high-rise distribution space will bring the existing highly automated facility to 221,200 sq. ft. in total, increasing overall storage capacity by 60 percent. Based in Archdale, Häfele America Co. (IWF Booth C1940), is a worldwide supplier of furniture and architectural hardware components for cabinets, doors, kitchens, bathrooms offering products such as LED lighting, smart home technology, decorative hardware, opening and closing mechanisms for doors and drawers, furniture fittings, and electronic locking systems.
“The expansion of our North Carolina warehouse is an investment in the future success of Häfele, but also that of our customers,” says Paul K. Smith, president of Häfele America Co. “Through this project we’ll be able to serve all of our customers in a multitude of better, more efficient ways—as well as reducing the company’s carbon footprint by adding solar power to our campus.”
The expanded facility will include a 501-kW solar system consisting of over 1,100 panels. That investment alone is expected to provide approximately 75 percent of the total power use for the facility.
“The equipment and processes employed within our Archdale facility are about to receive a monumental upgrade,” says Jed Kilpatrick, director of operations for Häfele America Co. “In addition to increased storage capacity, we’ll be adding the latest automated conveyor lines and product pick systems which will improve responsiveness, efficiency, and order accuracy.” Häfele’s existing facility employs a lights-out robotic automated parts picking system, along with a custom component fabrication production center.
Architectural plans were developed by Winston-Salem, NC-based West & Stem Architects, PLLC, with site construction by Landmark Builders, also in Winston-Salem, and solar power implementation by Yes Solar Solutions of Cary, NC.
