Poplar plywood manufacturer Garnica (IWF Booth C1546) is planning to invest more than €5 million in its Llodio, Spain plant to increase pine plywood production capacity.
The move will also drive its strategy of diversifying wood species used in its recipes for strong yet lightweight plywood and other panel products, though this plant does not supply the U.S. market.
The investment will speed up plywood production with a special focus on bottlenecks in the process; step up manufacturing capacity for filmed plywood; and via new state-of-the-art technology improve the quality of the plywood.
These new technologies, coming online in the second quarter of 2023, will optimize the use of pine veneer and minimize waste in the production process, increasing panel production by around 20,000 m3 per year.
This additional capacity will focus on increasing production in the pine product line and its products in combination with eucalyptus, sourced from responsibly managed, sustainable local plantations. Garnica also uses poplar in its plywood products, which include Performance Ultrasmooth primed plywood (pictured at top) for kitchen cabinets and closets, and its Efficiency HDF, an exceptionally smooth surface of 2.0 mm HDF that accepts veneers, laminate films, and paints well.
