As with every room in the house, new technologies are driving bathroom design, but wood is also gaining in popularity.
A new study on bath design trends points to a number of key technological areas that will influence builders going forward. It also identified several materials and color preferences that homeowners say they want in their new bathroom.
In technology applications, the study cites three areas where technology will become a bigger factor: Design Inspiration, using AI; Fixture Design, with smart systems that are also energy efficient; and Wellness, with health-oriented features and aging-in-place elements.
In design and materials, the new study found that wood-faced vanities, preferred by 62 percent of the survey respondents, have overtaken painted surfaces, preferred by 53 percent, “as biophilic design continues to be prioritized in the bath.”
When it came to bathroom design, transitional/timeless design was cited by 70 percent of respondents, followed by organic / natural, at 65 percent, and contemporary / modern / minimalism, at 57 percent.
Neutrals were the overwhelming favorite, 96 percent, for bath colors, with off-white at 58 percent, light brown/tan at 54 percent, and white, 40 percent, next in popularity. Dark brown at 30 percent, black at 18 percent and dark gray/slate at 18 percent were at the bottom of the list.
The National Kitchen & Bath Association study is comprised of data generated from a survey completed by nearly 700 industry experts, including designers, manufacturers, remodelers and architects, and looks at the coming year and beyond.
