Specialty Building Products’ OrePac Deal Latest Consolidation

The agreement to buy OrePac Building Products continues an industry trend of mergers and acquisitions around the country.

The deal unites Georgia-based Specialty Building Products, LLC (SBP) with OrePac, a regional distributor of specialty building materials based in Oregon. Financial terms for the acquisition, which is expected to close by the end of the year,  were not disclosed.

In announcing the deal, SBP said it substantially expands its product offerings and geographic reach. “We are excited to welcome one of North America’s leading specialty distributors to the SBP family,” said Jeff McLendon, president and CEO. “OrePac and its team share our unrelenting focus on customer success, building and maintaining strong relationships and sustaining operational excellence.” He added that its “legacy of leadership and service aligns seamlessly with SBP’s vision of championing customer success from the core of the specialty building products value chain.”

OrePac, founded in 1977, is a second-generation, family-run distributor of building materials with 13 locations across the Western United States. “After nearly 50 years as a family business, this moment is both emotional and exciting for OrePac,” said Brad Hart, president and CEO. “We are proud to join forces with SBP, whose scale and expertise will help carry forward our legacy while honoring the values our family has built since 1977.”

“This partnership ensures that our employees, customers and communities will continue to benefit from OrePac’s exceptional dedication and support, while also opening the door to new opportunities for growth and success,” added Glenn Hart, founder and chairman of OrePac.

OrePac is expected to continue operating under its own name with current management and employees remaining, including senior vice presidents Darin Coder and Kris Schroeder. It will also continue in its existing locations.

SBP, which serves 43 U.S. states and eight Canadian provinces from its 43 locations, operates under the brands U.S. LUMBER, Alexandria Moulding, REEB, DW Distribution, Millwork Sales and Amerhart.
