As the entire construction and home products sector continues to struggle, the investment is seen as a boost to the supply chain.
Four Quebec-based wood manufacturing companies are receiving $970,267 from the Canadian government “to modernize equipment and increase production capacity, as part of a broader federal push to strengthen the residential construction supply chain,” according to a report on the funding.
Administered through the Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED) under the Regional Economic Growth through Innovation (REGI) program, the investments are said to be intended to enhance productivity and innovation in furniture, cabinetry, and wood component manufacturing, all key contributors to residential construction across the province.
“The housing crisis can’t be solved without a strong supply chain,” said Minister of Industry Mélanie Joly in announcing the funding. “By supporting these manufacturers, we’re making sure builders have the materials they need to deliver homes faster and more efficiently.”
The four companies receiving the funds are Menuiserox Inc., which produces staircases, furniture and cabinet components and was awarded $500,000; Les Armoires des Monts Inc., a kitchen and bathroom cabinet producer receiving $300,000; Ébénisterie DSL Inc., specializing in furniture and cabinets and receiving $44,000; and Ébénisterie RN Inc., which makes furniture and other products, and received $126,267. All figures are in Canadian currency.
