Many talks preach the importance of reaching the next generation and the skills gap. This session plans to address these needs with action items that can be implemented within your facility and provide the encouragement to get started. Discussion will include local opportunities and national opportunities. This conversation will provide perspective from both the employers point of view as well as understanding the view point of the mentee. Much like the major leagues, some of your best talent is home grown but there must be a process and training involved! 


 About the Speaker:Doughas served industry roles as a Project Manager, Estimator, Engineer and CNC programmer. He spent 9 years teaching at Pittsburg State University, Wood Technology Program, connecting many students with the wood industry and its offerings. It was during this time that he gained understanding from the student perspective about what they value and look for in employment opportunities. Currently, Doug serves as the Director of Education for the Architectural Woodwork Institute. Many employers/owners speak of the skills gap and the need of employees. Come learn his perspective and tips that might set you apart from your competition while pursuing your next generation of workforce.
Doug’s efforts have been recognized by WMIA, with the esteemed award of Educator of the Year, and was a recipient of the Woodworking Network inaugural 40 under 40 Award. His passion is in the woodworking industry and the career opportunities that exist. His volunteer work includes many industry committees and serving as Wood Technology Industry Institute, President and Instructor of “Boot Camp”.
